DENVER, Oct. 1, 2026 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Cappello's, the frozen foods company known for pioneering the gluten-free category, is expanding its Classic Crispy Crust pizza line into select Kroger banners nationwide — including Kroger, Ralphs, Fry's Food Stores, King Soopers, QFC, Smith's, Fred Meyer, and Roundy's. The move marks the latest milestone in Cappello's ongoing expansion into conventional grocery, building on existing brand distribution at Walmart, Target, Costco, and Publix.

Classic Crispy Crust Pizza

"Gluten-free pizza has always asked people to choose between fitting their diet and eating a pizza that actually tastes like pizza. Classic Crispy Crust ends that trade-off." — Phil Anson, CEO, Cappello's

Now rolling out in the frozen pizza aisle alongside other gluten-free and better-for-you brands, Classic Crispy Crust — available in Five Cheese and Uncured Pepperoni — gives Kroger shoppers access to a category first: the world's first and only GFCO-certified wheat starch pizza on the market.

Unlike gluten-free pizzas built on rice or cauliflower, Classic Crispy Crust starts with real wheat starch, processed and certified gluten-free to a standard well beyond what federal law requires. The pizza is certified by the Gluten-Free Certification Organization (GFCO), which requires products to test at 10 parts per million (ppm) of gluten or below, twice as strict as the FDA's own 20 ppm threshold for gluten-free labeling. Classic Crispy Crust tests even lower, at under 5 ppm, giving an added margin of assurance for celiac and gluten-sensitive consumers who depend on trace-level accuracy to eat safely. The result is a crust that delivers the taste, chew, and crispiness of a conventional wheat-crust pizza, without the gluten, designed to be shared by the gluten-free eater and the gluten-eating rest of the family alike.

The launch reflects a broader evolution for Cappello's, long recognized in the natural channel as a pioneer of almond flour-based, grain-free foods. Following a 2025 rebrand, Cappello's has expanded its focus to include conventional grocery alongside its roots in the natural channel. That strategy has grown the brand's distribution across natural, conventional, and mass retail, and the Kroger launch marks its latest step, bringing certified gluten-free innovation to a wider set of shoppers nationwide.

"Gluten-free pizza has always asked people to choose between fitting their diet and eating a pizza that actually tastes like pizza. Classic Crispy Crust ends that trade-off," said Phil Anson, CEO of Cappello's. "Most of the innovation in this category over the past decade has been around functional ingredients and hidden vegetables, rather than solving the real problem, which is taste, texture, and product superiority. This is real wheat, processed to be genuinely gluten-free and certified to prove it, a pizza the gluten-free eater can put on the table and the rest of the family will ask for seconds of. Bringing it to Kroger is exactly the kind of conventional retail growth we've been building toward."

Classic Crispy Crust is proof that gluten-free pizza doesn't have to be a smaller, separate category. It's a genuinely good pizza, not a rice or cauliflower substitute, that just happens to be gluten-free. Its expansion into Kroger gives more shoppers than ever the chance to find that out for themselves.
